Newness

Newness

Maybe, like how night slunk
Across us, this newness
Grew like nubile flame
To clues, framed whole
By the whites of your eyes

Maybe, like the semblance
Of breeze on perspiring neck,
This touch swelled bold
To fingertips, and later, palms
Stamping skin with sense

Maybe, like the smell of earth
Worn like an accent, new words
Peeled slowly from tongue
Divining, picking over embers
Interred deep in me

Maybe.
