Outback Town at Noon

Piebald tin and fibro is stacked
low
calf unsteady on stumps

bearing melted facades that
sleep
thick in asbestos skin.

A pair of dogs grapple near
slack-
necked rubber tyre swans

treacle-eyed aggression
caught
in a corrugated tableaux.

Even the garden hose lays
defeated,
heavy in bore water stink.

All the day’s parts are made
malleable
under blind sun’s heel.

Noon pushes the town’s
bones
closer to the bitumen.

Very evocative – I’m sure I’ve been there

    Hi Jan,
I think everyone has driven through one at some time or other. So many stories in little places like these.
