Booie Ranges

I’m away for a few days in the Booie Ranges, enjoying the solitude, sleeping plenty, writing plenty, watching the birds outside the door, stoking up the fire and enjoying the fine wine of the area. This is a beautiful part of the world, relatively undiscovered. The quiet is bliss. Here’s a poem I wrote today:

The shirt
For D

You left your shirt hanging in my cupboard
the black one, with the fancy buttons
still smelling like you and me on that weekday night
in October, still holding on to your shape

If I sent it back to you now, over kilometres and ocean
it would be too final. I still need your arms, even like this.

    i love it
a wonderful concise poem of emotion
i really like the mundane feeling of it
    and the straightness

Sounds like a brilliant retreat. I love the deceptive simplicity of this poem.

It’s hard to let go, isn’t it? Beautiful.
