aspects of Australian poetry in 2012 – Westerly

Following on from the review in the Weekend Australian, Confessional Box has also been included in Michelle Cahill’s review essay ‘Aspect of Australian Poetry 2012’ in the June 2013 edition of Westerly.

Just a brief overview, it is nevertheless a favourable mention! It is such an honour to have my book included in this essay, which discusses many fine books released over the past year, including a few by my Walleah Press stablemates.

Michelle writes:

“I have not had space to write about a few exceptional books which carve out feminist subjectivities: Vanessa Page’s Confessional Box is poised, focussed and skilful, blending landscapes of home and the natural world with a deep simplicity.”

Confessional box reviewed in the Weekend Australian

I had a very unexpected but very welcome surprise yesterday when I was alerted to the review of Confessional Box by Geoff Page in the Weekend Australian.

I realise how challenging it can be to gain exposure for a poetry book – so national exposure such as this is just wonderful and hard to put a value on! I am very appreciative and feeling very blessed at the moment.

To view online go to or pick up a copy of this weekend’s Weekend Australian.

Copies of the book are still available…please contact my wonderful publisher Walleah Press for the details.

feature spot at whispers

I have been invited to participate as the feature poet at the State Library of Queensland’s excellent monthly literary event ‘Whispers’.

I will be lining up alongside four other writers on Saturday July 13 to share stories around the theme of ‘On the road’.

Here’s the official blurb about the event:

Stories speak to us; they whisper, cajole, and, on occasion, shout out to be heard.

Join critically acclaimed author, Patrick Holland (Riding the Trains in Japan: Travels in the Sacred and Supermodern East, The Darkest Little Room, The Source of the Sound), alongside author Mary-Lou Stephens (Sex, Drugs & Meditation), Felix Calvino (A Hatful of Cherries), poet Vanessa Page and short fiction writer, Megan McGrath, as they share their stories of being on the road.

Relax in The Library Café, and connect with passionate readers and writers as we celebrate the unique stories and voices that define Queensland.

Whispers is a monthly salon event celebrating the talented voices of new and emerging Queensland writers of fiction and creative non-fiction.

Whispers – bringing words to life.

With many of my poems inspired by my travels – especially through outback Queensland, I think the hardest thing will be choosing the poems to read!

Located at the SLQ cafe, the event kicks off at 3pm. Copies of my book ‘Confessional Box’ will be available for sale at the SLQ bookshop on the day.
